Between 2017–2019, Vice News Tonight on HBO ran a series of interviews with musicians about their songwriting process. I designed and animated graphics visualizing the musical layers.
Tight TV deadlines called for a graphic system stable enough to use across episodes, but flexible enough to fit the unique vibe of each musician.
By the sixth episode/iteration, I locked the system in around tiled graphic units. The grid served as a lattice to plot musical patterns across, while the lines within each tile expressed other sonic traits.
