# Verse Chorus Bridge **Years:** 2017–2019 **Role:** Art director, designer, animator **Client:** VICE News (VICE News Tonight on HBO) **Tags:** stories-and-dataviz, music, design-systems **Case study:** /work/verse-chorus-bridge **Related:** /work/vice-news · /work/obamas-legacy Between 2017–2019, *Vice News Tonight on HBO* ran a series of interviews with musicians about their songwriting process. I designed and animated graphics visualizing the musical layers. Tight TV deadlines called for a graphic system stable enough to use across episodes, but flexible enough to fit the unique vibe of each musician. By the sixth episode/iteration, I locked the system in around tiled graphic units. The grid served as a lattice to plot musical patterns across, while the lines within each tile expressed other sonic traits. **Team** — Produced by Brendan Kennedy, Caroline Pahl, Quinton Boudwin.
